Bus From Mumbai

Here's good news for passengers travelling to Pune by Asiad buses. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will launch brand new semi-luxury buses from 10 Aug with more seating capacity and an air suspension system-introduced for the first time in Asiad buses.

The first set of six purple-colour buses will hit the roads on 10 Aug after being flagged off by state transport minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil. The buses will have eight more seats than the standard semi-luxury buses, which means a seating capacity of 47. It will have brand new comfortable seats and will ensure smooth travel on the Expressways. Each bus cost Rs 18-20 lakh and was manufactured at the MSRTC's Dapodi plant in Pune. These buses will also ply the Mumbai-Nashik route and will be introduced in phases in other sectors including Mumbai-Goa route. Sources said that ticket fares will not be hiked for the new semi-luxury buses, which means getting more comfort for the same price.

The MSRTC will soon launch AC semi-luxury buses, which will be an amalgamation of the Shivneri Volvos (Mumbai-Pune) and the semi-luxury buses. "It will provide AC comfort to passengers, but will be lighter on the wallet as ticket price will be less than that of Shivneri Volvos,'' said an official.

At present, the MSRTC runs 150 trips to Pune and almost all buses run packed throughout the week.
